Make the switch. The Digital Dugnad campaign highlights four actions you can take -

• Switch your browser.
• Switch your search engine.
• Move your email.
• Change where you store your files.

I’d suggest a fifth - dump MS and/or Apple and switch to a Linux distribution.

The campaign suggests that each one takes minutes. That’s very misleading. Releasing your emails and downloading files and pictures from big tech is a bloody nightmare. That’s by design but one you will eventually wake from. Uploading all that stuff to your chosen new home is tedious. Not sure if there is a quick and easy way to change login emails. I never found one and had hundreds of sites where this applied. Prioritised the important ones and made my way through the others as and when I needed to. Many just got neglected since I no longer visited the sites where they applied.

Switching to Linux was the low hanging fruit for me. Maybe start with that for a quick win.

I mostly did all this a good few years ago. No regrets. GitHub is the last place that MS has a hold on me. Migrated all my repos to Codeberg including this site in the last month or so. Still using GitHub pages for hosting until I feel more confident about using Codeberg to do the same. Nearly there.
